The National Institute of Forest Science (NIFoS Director Bae Jae-su) announced on Friday the 2nd the publication of the ‘Casebook of Wooden Houses Applying Domestic Structural Particleboard’ which compiles case studies of applying the first domestically developed structural particleboard in wooden houses.

This casebook introduces field applications of ‘structural particleboard’ developed and produced domestically to replace imported oriented strand board (OSB) used as core materials (wall floor and roof coverings) in wooden construction.

The pilot application of structural particleboard in wooden houses was conducted at seven sites selected through a technical evaluation of applicants solicited by the Korea Wood Construction Association.

The casebook includes a variety of materials such as overviews scale designs and construction photos by process for each building. It also features a comparative case study of two buildings constructed with the same structure one using imported OSB and the other using domestic structural particleboard which is expected to be helpful for construction companies and homeowners interested in wooden construction.

Lee Min a researcher at the Wood Engineering Research Department of NIFoS stated “We hope that through this casebook structural particleboard will be widely used in wooden house construction contributing to the domestic wood industry and expanding the use of domestic wood.”

As part of proactive administration this research report is available for public access and can be downloaded from the NIFoS Library website (https://book.nifos.go.kr) under National Institute of Forest Science Library Publications Research Publications Research Materials.
